The Biennale svizzera del territorio, organized by the the Istituto Internazionale di Architettura, returns for its fifth edition on October 4-5, 2024, opening the Villa Saroli doors to territorial experts, architects, and the general public. An opportunity to explore and re-imagine the future of our built environment.
This edition will once again address the ongoing social, economic, and spatial changes taking place in today’s society, this time through the theme "Back to the Future": a call to reclaim the future and collaboratively design alternatives to the slow unfolding of the present. The theme of the territory and the interactions between humans and nature will be at the heart of the multidisciplinary conferences and debates that will be held.
As in previous editions, the program will be accompanied by several parallel events: live performances, an exhibition, children's workshops on the theme of imagination and the future, and urban walksthat will provide opportunities for more informal exchanges in a stimulating atmosphere. Furthermore, following the success of 2022, the Biennale will once again serve as a showcase for innovation and creativity with the launch of two calls for competition: the "Call for Pecha Kucha" and the "Call for Action." The latter, open to students and professionals from all over the world, will feature the exhibition of 10 projects that will be set up in the splendid park of Villa Saroli, thus offering a transition from theoretical debate to practical and tangible action. The congress will begin on Thursday, October 3 in Mendrisio at the Accademia and will end at noon on Friday at the Consulate General of Italy in Lugano.
